Add forum category just for quest planning and discussion?

Post by Algernon's Ghost »

The idea had come up to add a new forum discussion category devoted solely to mixed ooc/ic quest planning and discussion. Each poster could specify ic/ooc, or simply allow a mix in the thread (as usually happens in the IC Discussions category already). The forum would be both for player and DM arranged events of all scopes.

Yes...

IM in favor of this category.

It will allow for more roleplay when in the group rather than the 15 mins of planning and discussion of tactics that occur before we leave on a journey.

I voted no, just because I have no problem using the General Discussion board as a launch pad/debriefing for quests. Posting notes in the IC Discussion board is fine too.

I'm not dead-set against a new board, or anything, but I don't mind the way things are now.

I like the idea but I have to ask before I vote, will this new forum replace the IC forum? I ask because I see it this way, one posts in the IC forum, for IC purposes, then in this other forum its posted again but with OOC posts allowed. Seems kinda wierd, maybe its just me.

a Question..

Post by AtraAngelis »

Let me ask this..
Is the reason for the IC/OOC category.. to keep the IC Discussion thread purly IC??

FOr example.. I see a slight breaking of the forum rules by myself when I post for a journey.. and then OOC talk creeps into the thread.. concerning time and what to do and other matters related to the trip. How do i feel about it... well I insist on the first post to always be IC.. but those after dont bother me... some may see this differently.

I could see the use for both..

The IC Discussions forum would still remain.

This new forum would be the only place where public quest/event arrangements would be made. It would be the central hub for all such information, both IC and OOC. There would be no more need to post IC quest stuff in the IC forum. Quest threads are always a mix of OOC and IC, which doesn't really belong in the IC Discussion anyway. As it is now, we have quest talk scattered over several forums.

Thats how I always felt myself, just didn't want to say anything.

Vote cast.

Going with the 'less is more' theory here, I voted no. I've always wished the IC discussion forum would just remain so. If threads related to expedition planning need to be expounded on (or rather when because I realize the disconnect between game time and real time) that can easily be done in the GD section.

Yes, although General Discussion is just that, General Discussion, this new forum will keep all the necessary threads in one place that pertain to the IC post. Less clutter to search for particular posts, in info is needed just visit that forum/thread without having to sift through the GD threads combined with it.

My thoughts on why I voted yes anyhow.

I vote yes, I believe not only that it would help limit IG, discussion, which leads to a bit of confusion at times, it might also spur others to start up quests. I see a lot of the same people *cough..atra.. cough* setting up treks and such, but if you give it, its own category, add a few threads on issues that might help (ie what you can or should not do), some players/ DMs insight, we might have some more people getting into setting up quest, treks, jaunts, and such. There are a lot of quests going on out there but if you are not part of a particular group (and yes they are out there), you might miss out on alot of oportunities. There is a lot of talk about cultivating new role players I think this would be a good area to help this out, and for the "old timers" it seems that there is a lot of long term Quest out there that show up now and then, but lose focus after a bit (the crypts, the warrens, ect. ) ok, Im done sorry to run on, it is just my opinion...hope it adds value....out

I agree with all the reasons for making a new forum, so I won't waste space reiterating them. ;) The DMs have always made it pretty clear that quests can be started by anyone, but giving announcements and discussions (maybe surveys for potential interest in a quest idea?) a home of their own will hopefully encourage a lot of people to take initiative.

After sitting on the white-picket MasterWork Fence of razor sharp spikes for too long and getting this huge pain in my butt, I think I'll change my vote to "YES"."

I think Nox brought up a good point, that there are many quests/trips/treks that don't neccessarly get brought up in the forum because they are not quite impromptu, but are not quite planned in advanced either. Many of these types of trips are more of long running personal quests by PCs that don't neccessarly happen unless people seem bored at the well and theres enough folks to go around. I know Vincent doesn't do many trips, but he has his own little thing going with Quinn right now that basicly would only happen if Quinn there and willing and with one or two people at the well. True we could have planned it out in advance... but it seems its just that Vincent always justs bugs Quinn whenever he shows up "Ready now Quinn?!" hehe Probberly why he'll just do it just to stop my pestering :)

But not all quests/trips/treks deserve their own IC posting in the forum. I mean, do you Reeeeeallly want to write an IC post about finding higher quaility bat guano? But yet, in an OOC way, you can declare this that this is his intention on a certain date/time.

A few more thoughts, If you post in this new forum (which it seems will be happening by the way the vote looks now), how should the format be? I mean, you could have half a screen filled with Atra's Treks ;) or would you have one for each PC or "over reaching quest" like the crypt. Course there could be a lot of clutter as many people post in other people's quests topics and the over reaching quests would quickly get stuffed.

I voted yes for a couple reasons. The first is the mix of IC and OOC conversation that necessarily occurs when planning a quest. The other is that it would be nice to have a centralized place where one can find any and all upcoming (and past) quests quickly and easily.

i think its a great idea just in terms of having specific things in specific places. as a plus when new players come to scope out the boards they can see how active we are with our quests and adventures and such without having to dig through the general discussion which covers so much, just like the RP devevelopment board lets us focus strictly on that and not have to dig around. I'm all for it!
