Can I reiterate a suggestion that was made long ago for people to list what characters (or at least their main character) they play on the Vast in their forum signature? Sometimes Game IDs and Forum IDs don't match up. And even when they do match up, I don't know every person yet, despite the tight-knit community. I think it makes things easier for recognition and such.
Thanks.

I think that's a really good idea. I've been doing it the hard way, typing the names of my characters in double brackets at the end of each post. ((Like this.)) But I guess that using the signature is more logical and has a few advantages: first of all, you don't have to type it all again every time - you only have to edit it when you want to change your list of characters. And second: when you update your signature, it changes in all posts, even the old ones. Thus, people can see your current character's names even when browsing through the old threads.
Damn, it took me a long time to understand how the signature works... Otherwise, I would have done this from the start.
But all this is about the mechanics. As for the reason to do so, I agree with archimedes: It's not always easy to know "who is who". I would just add the suggestion that those who have an in-game ID different from the forum's one include it in the signature as well. But the character's names are more obviouly needed.
Of course any of this is mandatory, but I do think it's a good suggestion. It's a matter of courtesy to the fellow players and DMs alike.
So let me end this post with the relief of not having to type those names yet again.

If your forum ID and game ID don't match, it is definitely helpful for all of us if you list your game ID with your posts.
Alternatively, if you want them to match, I can change your forum ID for you.

on other server's forums, its common to include Chara names, perhaps thier server (on multi server setup like ALFA or TOR) as part of thier signatures...Algernon's Ghost wrote:If your forum ID and game ID don't match, it is definitely helpful for all of us if you list your game ID with your posts.
