Born in the town known as Bloodstone Village, Rory grew up in the care of his Uncle Berthold Krow, after being orphaned and an early age. Berthold provided shelter and the necessities of life, yet was far from the model parent. Berthold ran a carnival during the warm months, and used his talents of illusion to entertain his customers. Rory was often treated as more of a servant, often given the task of taking care of the animals and other menial work.
Rory was taught to appreciate the virtues of the dwarven people by his governess, Olga Blackrock. She was an older dwarven lady, of high morals. She cared for Rory as a mother would, yet maintaining a strict household. Often to keep him out of trouble, she would teach him the language of her kin, to feed his hungry mind. She later passed away peacefully as Rory reached adulthood. Her passing may have added fuel to the fire when it came to his relationship with his uncle, since now there was no buffer between the two.
After a particularly heated argument with his uncle, Rory ran away from home. After a long and nerve wracking journey, he found himself outside the gates of Dragon Dale, tired, cold and hungry.
