I logged on a couple of afternoons last week, but nobody else was online, and the forum seems deserted for the most part. I was hoping that it was just due to it being a holiday weekend.

Waning light...

Post by AtraAngelis »

I hope one day the fvast returns to its glory, but the reality of it is...

THe lead DM and Developer has been gonce since December 06, All other DMs are Awol or Down do to hardware failure.

The world has stagnated.. and players have left.

These are the waning days of the Vast.
IMHO, the server should be just shut off...

IMHO, Keldorn Battlehammer's BIG smelly Dwarfmouth should be just shut off... err, up... something... :D
As much as i b8TCHED about things/events/perceptions... Offline is a status i don't care to entertain. I do worry about what is going on in RL for our intrepid DM's?

I disagree. I have had a number of things keeping me from playing, but when I can play, I want to play on the Vast. Even if there aren't any other players around a lot of the time. If AG and Taraxa are willing to keep the server running, I'll continue to return.

I'm not saying I wouldn't love more player and DM activity, but shutting down the server doesn't help any of that.

Well, a lot of us have been wondering what's up in the DMs' lives for the past six months, and I think we've gotten all the answer we're gonna. I personally don't blame them for it, nice as it would be to get some feedback on whether they expect themselves to be back after a time.

But, Atra... your words seem a bit much. I haven't seen much activity on these forums, and what I have seems kind of despairing. And even though it's true that the community of the Vast is going through a sluggish period, I don't think calling for its funeral is going to help anything.

We all invested a lot in this place and it's sad to see it neglected for months at a time. But -- and this is just how I see it -- the truth is, AG will come back around to the server eventually, and if he decides it's worth working on he'll get a real server running (we've probably all donated enough already), make a post, and a lot of us will see the post on a nostalgic jaunt back to these forums and poke our noses back in. I don't think the Vast is dead until everybody severs ties with the place.

Another aspect, too, is that a lack of DMs won't keep every newcomer off the server. Folks have thrived and had fun without any DM support before. I think it's likely that when AG does pick up the pieces again, he'll come back and find the server has a community still. It may just not include all of us.

The way I see it is, all of us as players, at least at one point, have left the server for months at a time, due to real life issues, time constraints, or any number of other reasons. We always came back, however, once our situations permitted such, and our role-play would reflect a new energy and freshness that we gained while we were absent. Perhaps the DMs, like us, also need to enjoy an extended leave, and for us to not afford them the same freedom to come and go is not fair.

To me, the fact that they still have it up and running and respond to our persistent requests for resets is a good sign. At least they're entertaining the idea of reviving it.

Though I don't want to seem as if I'm dismissing the contributions of DM involvement, I do want to say how excited I was and how re-charged my enthusiasm was from the last two group outings I participated in recently.. much of the thanks going to Atra and Ring for their parts.

With absolutely no DM involvement (that I could tell anyways), I experienced the Vast just as I remembered it.. with good friends and outstanding RP. We trekked into dangerous territory with little hope of OOC benefit other than being together and playing our roles as best we could. I think I'm seeing a slow resurgence here (just tonight we had 9 on including myself) and I know with the talent and spirit in our player-pool we can keep this thing going (hope I didn't just jinx it).

I had my system Wiped... and Had to reboot the whole thing Gggrrr and since I cannot find my Hordes of the Underdark book for the life of me ( kid's probably through it under a couch or something) I don't even have NWN's anymore.. So Marik is pretty much wiped and gone as well.

I know that is the reason for MY absence. No Neverwinter No Vast

Sorry to hear everything is so slow though :( But Like Cafall said I am sure in time things will pick back up. The cycle will revolve and even if DM's never return there is always the RP with others peep's and Goblin slashing to be had.

I only played one (truley) DMed game in all my vastian gameplay. Yet I do not regret the countless other games, Storytelling, and RP I shared with you all. (Noted: I know no one else has regrets to clearify) In time perhaps things will begin to pick up over the ever (rainy) lands of the vast.

OR "hey" dusting off those book's and toss them'bones around a table that should make up for the lack of Computered DM(ed) Gaming

I know I left the Vast for personal reasons, I have to agree with Tens. The fact that the server is still running means it's still well alive. Personally there's no doubt in my mind that players and DM's will return sometime this year.

Btw, you probably see me log in once in a while without me knowing it. I checked the vault and there are two new chars there that sure aren't mine.
A lvl3 ranger called Ivos Walder (?) and a lvl1 rogue, called Sorrian Sarg (?).
Both human, btw. If you meet any of those, please inform the player it isn't polite to use a log-in that isn't their own. (haven't checked whether any of my chars have been used.....then, most chars I had are dead anyway)

Please, don't loose faith, folk.
Maybe we'll meet again at a fair sometime, or just for a silly conversation at the well or at the ranger-camp.

May your paths lead into the future.

Sarah Petite.
