Ranur (short form of Elranuir, like Bob for Robert) is a reasonably good-looking half-elf. He is in his mid-thirties, and something unclear about him suggests that he has travelled a lot and seen many things. He is usually well-dressed, carrying both a longsword and a longbow.


Background:

Elranuir's father, the elf Aylurin Drulomonen, was the leader of a group of adventurers that travelled together for many years, mainly in the regions around the Sword Coast and the Silver Marches. A sorcerer of no meager power, and also a competent archer, Aylurin was obsessed with hunting lost magical treasures of great value. He married Pearl Widesky, a young, cunning and talented human rogue who had joined the group, and who would become Elranuir's mother.

When Elranuir was still a child, his mother fell in love with another member of the group, Ugo Torvarr. He was an experienced adventurer, a forty years old human, quite proficient with the longsword, "born in Raven's Bluff but at home on the roads", as he liked to say. Aylurin found out about it, and expelled both Pearl and Ugo from the group. Elranuir was five years old at the time, and that was the last time he saw his mother.

Ranur, as most non-elves usually call him, grew up travelling with his father and the remaining adventurers of his group. He became a good tracker and an skilled hunter, feeling comfortable in the wilds. He also discovered that he had some of his father's talent to manipulate the Weave. He never pushed the use of his magical talents to the limit, though, focusing more in trying to dominate the "art of the bow", as Aylurin called it, comprising not only of refined elven archery techniques, but also of equally refined elven bowmaking techniques. He also became very interested in the history of the elven race, with its battles, myths and legends.

As he grew older, Ranur got more and more interested in knowing what happened to his mother. This made Aylurin angry, and their relationship became difficult and full of resentment. When he completed 20 years, Ranur decided to leave the group and follow his own path. He tried to find his mother, but, to his great disappointment, he found out that she died in Silverymoon, a couple of years before.

Ranur also learned that his mother had another child with Ugo, a human girl named Aline. When Ranur got to Silverymoon, they were not living there anymore, though. He tried to forget about it all, with mixed feelings about having a half-sister. Many years later, however, he decided to track them down, and discovered that father and daughter went on a long trip to Raven's Bluff, Ugo's hometown. He went there, unsure if he really wanted to meet them, but he didn't find them in Raven's Bluff. Ugo had died in an ambush on the road by drow bandits, and Aline had moved to Lyrabar, in Impiltur.

Ranur went to Lyrabar and found Aline, but he didn't approach her. He didn't know exactly what he felt, and preferred to leave her alone. It seemed to him that she was doing well, working as an assistant for a jeweller. He went back to Raven's Bluff and decided to stay there, looking for jobs that he could do. He worked as a bowyer for some time, but soon he saw himself joining friends in search of adventure. After all, he was raised in the midst of an adventuring group, and staying put in town didn't make him happy.

Eventually Ranur found his way to River Vesper Landing, and, from there, to Dragon Dale...
