Full plate

Post by pcpaf »

I think its okey that the members of the Temple in Vesper can get a full plate at a low price.. but why can´t we buy a full plate in the stores ?

kelinar used to have full plate and it was dead sexy - Just look at Talen and Ramin. . . i'd be ok with half plate if it had sleeves. No sleeves just does not look as cool. I also wish that dwarf would hire some people to model his armor. i have bought some rather expensive armor a couple of times and been disappointed about how it makes my character look and then either sold it back to ralbon or pawned off to another PC at a discount price. of course i am someone who will completely remake a character if i forget tattoos, misspell a word in the character description, pick the wrong head, put skill points into the wrong skill etc. etc. ;-)
A DM can help you with role-playing a major armor purchase, and allow you to try on various suits.

Full plate is very rare, as it was historically. For that matter, even half-plate, and most of the other medium and heavy armors would also be very scarce, but we did not want to make those so scarce as well, so we chose just full plate. Full plate is available through channels other than the Temple though, but I will not elaborate on that at this time. Just think how special it will be if and when you do acquire full plate.

I agree with AG on this matter since having a FUll Plate symbolizes the completion of a great deed or character status. In other words those who are of elite kind, pertain to a knight guild, or have earned it thru trial, sweat and blood can attain such a high prize. It really degfines a status of great honor to bear.

I tryed to get a full plate today at the smith in Vesper.

Both AG and Apollo was there.

The smith don´t make fullplates.. I tryed anything...

The price for a full plate in the temple is about 1500gp.
I was willing to give my halfplate and 2500gp.
But the smith can´t make a full plate.

So I guess I will have to go to any shop keeper in Dragon Dale and Vesper and ask them if they can get me one.

I can also just go kill someone who have a full plate. No other posiblity to get one must be enof for a Evil person. But I don´t like that idea.

So.. I will go to all the shops and get a DM to take controll of all the shop keepers and then ask them if they can get me one.

I belive that will take to much of the DMs time.. I belive there are better things for the DMs to do.. but again.. Its part of being a DM to controll the NPCs and help the players that way.

Or is there something ells I can do, so I don´t have to use the DMs time on it ?
I can only say I agree with that. I just couldn't have said it.

So PcPaf...yes, you can go around and kill every person with a plate mail, but I think that is a bad idea. It is against the rules about PvP (yes, I am a rulelawyer, or something like that, one player told me).

About going around and make (force) the DMs take over every shopkeeper, I can only say...very bad idea...don't make the DMs irrate <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:"> .

I can only say, I like your persistence, but read the quote of Jeaza Mcleods. In that you will find the clues to get a plate mail. Asking all the time, will just result in the DMs start to ignore you all the time. I know that is bad, but I know I can't help myself. Bug me from time to time, and I will be honored. Bug me all the time, and I will be pis... (can I use that word in here) off.

But anyway, I loved to hunt you out of the smith yesterday .
I never said force... Was going to wait to the DMs had time.

There is no Evil Guild or Temple in the game where I can get a full plate like the good alighment players can.

Can´t see why its okey that some people ((good)) can buy a Full plate, but not when you are Neutral or Evil.

My carecter have been fighting all there is to fight in the game (not drow). I belive he have earned the right to bear a fullplate.

The only thing my Evil cleric can do to get a Full plate, is to ask all the shop keepers if they can order one for me from another town.

I to liked the "event" with the dwarfs in Vesper. And I look forward to get kicked out af alot more shops

Pleace tell me if there are no way my carecter can get a full plate in the game right now. Becource then I will wait to get one.. It will safe me and the DM team alot of time
pcpaf, where do you go to obtain something, when you're not legally permitted to have something? Someone who deals in stolen goods. If the DMs permit it, why don't you seek out a fence or thief? They'd charge you an arm and a leg for anything they sold you, and you'd risk getting caught with stolen goods. Think about the RPing possibilities, though. You'd have to worry about a deal going bad.

Walking into all the shops and asking for full plate, is like asking for a .50 caliber machine gun at Sears. Kelinar, the Dwarf armorer, is probably the one who makes the armor for the Temple anyway. He doesn't want to lose a contract with them.

I remember reading in one of the Forgotten Realms sources about the Vast that Calaunt, which is down river from River Vesper Landing, is run by a real corrupt bunch, and you might be able to get some things from there. Providing the DMs are allowing trade to come up the river, what with the pirates and all. They're the ones that are trying to keep this all in balance, of course. It's the DMs stage here, and I'm happy just to 'chew the scenery.'
I wll just drop the Idea of a full plate... The carecter don´t need one.. It just looks better
Armor, Weapons, Nice stuff for sale?

Post by sebathius »

I want to impress upon all of you, DMs and Players alike, that the idea of other people then the Paladins owning something like exceptional and Masterworked weapons, items or Armor is not impossible to keep in balance to our game due to many different factors.

First lets consider how you would obtain said items. say you wanted a masterworked blade or a staff of some such with the same abilities. Is it unlikely in the Vast? When I first encountered the dwarf from the smithy in vesper, I thought to myself, wow this guy must be really good at what he does, his costs are astronomical and hes the only guy that has certain armors and weapons. he must be very skilled to be able to produce such items. That being the case, I came to the conclusion that he must be able to make masterworked weapons, and if so, why not armor as well? I thought to myself, come on, the Temple has to get it from Somewhere!

so how do we make it balance out in the game? two simple words: TAILOR MADE! I have heard that its possible for the scripter to make certain items on your character token linked to you and you only. if you were to die, then the item still is carried, but it acts as if unidentified permanently in the sense that it cannot be weilded or worn by a user. After all, if I were to (no offense Trent) go after Trent and kill him, when I were to loot his body I wouldnt find the Vesper Token on his person.

But, Your screaming at the top of your lungs, how in hell is a DM going to be expected to deliver these items by an NPC shop when hes away? Simple. We use this forum to meet with the DM, we put in an order in RP with the dwarf or other vendor, and a week later (see the PH for masterwork creation and weapon creation time) the item is ready to be picked up. Unreasonable? hell, if your willing to pay a donkey driven wagon full of cash for your nice new armor or weapon, will you be willing to wait an extra week? of course you would.

So how unbalanced is this +1 weapon? in the overall scheme of things, an extra one more point is nothing to really be getting all upset about. lets look at a cleric, fourth level, with a plus one mace. Hm. base attack: 3+1 for the weapon, lets give him a +2 for strength, so that equates to +6. in the grand scheme of things, thats not much of a difference. According to the definition of Masterwork Weapons, it only applies to attack, not damage. That may be a scripting problem, ask our resident scripter.

Masterwork armor only reduces the penalty of armor checks by one. wow. Big deal for a dex inclined warrior, but not likely much of a bonus till when he starts raising his bonus of dex up past +2.

A masterworked item adds two to a persons skill bonus. Imagine Ruben with a set of Masterwork picks and maybe you have a problem. Otherwise, I dont see it as that much of a deal.

DMs, dont pass this opportunity up. I think this is a great alternative to giving out magical items and I see great potential in people using their cash for something to really make their characters feel more personal when they have small items such as this. I know I felt pretty cool when I got that shadowblade, and it only adds one to the hide skill!

BTW, someone mentioned only giving them out as quest rewards.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/grin.gif ALT=" >D"> Though this sounds like good advice to give these items out during that time, I dont believe its fair to others that are not always able to make it to these quests you guys make. If I have earned the right to buy these items with my hard earned cash (yeah like Ill ever have more then a 1000 gold at any one given time, Im always ressing someone) on a weapon of exceptional quality or armor to keep myself alive that much longer and wait around for the item to be produced by the master smithy, then why should I be ostricized by that opportunity?

I dont see any reason to have anyone from the Dale selling said items of course due in fact because I dont see them as professionals such as Vesper Merchants.
From my ignorant player's perspective, Sebathius , you have an excellent point.

The only part I would argue would be the tailor-made part, Anyone can theoretically use any weapon with enough training, provided it's feasible as a weapon (for example, those bows with the teeth sticking out of them are not feasible weapons because the teeth would break the bow when it was drawn. That beautifully decorated mace, tailor-made for Balin, can be used by anyone who is willing to practice with it.) I'm too ignorant about weapon design to debate safely, and anyway, you get the point. Someone may have to work a little harder to use Trent's Righteous Blade of Holy Death, but eventually they'll adjust to it and stab bugbears just as easily as Trent did. Why be forced to throw away a perfectly good Staff of the Manatee when anyone should be able to use it eventually anyway?

An alternative would be to impose restrictions that can be met by others if they have the prerequisites. For example, Thurgrin's axe (he does use an axe?) can only be wielded by a person with 14 Strength, the Wand of Passwall can only be used by a person with at least 4 ranks in Spellcraft, etc. This would keep the weapon from being wielded by any idiot goblin that manages to kill the owner, but also doesn't destroy its usefulness should the owner die.

In hindsight another opportunity to your idea is to allow the person to use Trents sword of Holy death but not allow the abilities to be used because they were attached to his personality. its only a sword to that person.

the axe of Thurgrin would only be an axe to someone else

The purpose of limiting this is due in fact that (unscrupulous players) could end up out there looking for Trent to be running down the road so they can pepper him full of arrows for his sword.

wow, Trent is having a bad week
