Map of Dragon Dale Region - Rough Draft
Here's a very rough draft/WIP (work in progress) of the known region within the game.

There are no text labels yet and the scaling's waaaaay off, but I think it conveys the general idea of our little world.
That's a pretty good effort actually

I assume the little area south-west of Dragon dale (in the woods) is the Ranger camp, but what about the thing directly west of Dragon Dale? Is that the Goblin Warrens?

Re: Map of Dragon Dale Region - Rough Draft
Northwest of Dragon Dale is supposed to be the quarry.

On the far west end of the woods, if you look closely, is the Druid's Grove (it's a symbol of Stonehenge).

Yes, Southwest in the woods is the ranger camp, further south are the ruins (bugbear camp) which Thurgrin found by accident.

I haven't put in anything to indicate the Warrens ... yet.

I'll post updates as I make them to the map.

Please bear in mind that I am creating this map as if Thurgrin himself is drawing the map, (I've RPed him getting his map scrolls out and making notations and what not) using the information gathered from other adventurers as well as the things he has seen himself.

Excellent job! It looks like you used campaign mapper. Thurgrin should get some RP exp. for this.
You are correct.

I cleaned my desk the other day and came across my D&D Core Rules 2.0 CD. It occurred to me that Campaign Mapper is a part of Core Rules so I installed it and began playing with it.

It's a nifty program but not all that intuitive and the Help files stink. It also has some limitations ( i.e. lack of cave symbols, cemetary markers, scaling is a pain in the rear end, no paint brush or free hand mode etc) Still trying to figure out how to convert the map from color to line drawing, similiar to what you find in the novels.

I'm saving my pennies to purchase Campaign Cartographer 2 Pro with the Fantasy Overland & Fantasy Dungeon symbol sets. Until then, bear with me and the maps that result from CM.
Here's an update of the map, enjoy!

Dragon Dale & it's environs v.02c

NOTE:

CM only allows saving the picture as a bitmap. One of these days, I'll convert the .bmp to jpeg.

I highly recommend folks print in gray-scale. Color print produces poor results.

Keep up the great job you are doing Thurgin!
This construction of the map gives us a broader perspective of the sheer size of the Vast and the explored surroundings lands so far. I did try to make some reconissance missions on my own but gave up on it as soon as I hear you were doing a much better job than i was...

Another thing that comes into mind since you are doing cartography work of The vast is the actual mapping of the areas in The Vast. I did begin to do such a task back when I was playing Garon Thendt (deceased), and got about 20 screen shots worth of maps of the areas around Dragon Dale.
I even pointed out points od interest like Balmberry bushes and quartz deposits.

It would be nice to RP the making of copies Map Scrolls of the areas visited by Thurgin. It would certainly enhance how we play the game, now knowing that we have better logistics.
Again keep up the good work and we await your final draft.

I tossed around the idea of making accurate area maps but have decided against it for a number of reasons:

1. Maps with such detail IMHO are spoilers. I feel spoilers do just that, spoil the fun. Half the fun for me is exploring, learning where things are for myself.

2. From an IC standpoint, Thurgrin only has an average intelligence. He knows the value of maps (having been trained at a war college, he know maps are indispensible for battle planning) however, creating accurate, detailed maps is beyond his skill. Doing such a thing is more within the realm of sages, bards, & wizards. He's merely a soldier.

3. Creating such maps is beyond the ability of my mapping program at the moment. I can create general overland maps, city layouts, and dungeon maps but anythng more than that, just isn't possible. Perhaps once I purchase CC2 Pro with the additional symbol sets, I might give it a go.

And finally... coming soon to a map shop near you:
Please do not post this kind of information here, it is simply too easy for players to metagame once they know these things. Information like this should be discovered in character and in game. I will move all of these points of interest if they are revealed here.

Also remember that any maps seen here will also have to be discussed in game for your character to know anything about them. The last thing I want is everyone running around knowing the locations of the more secluded areas without ever having been there.

I think what he was referring to was taking screen shots of each area after he had "mapped" them out, then sewing together the maps (that appear when you press the "m" key) into one cohesive image in a image editing program.

Re: Map of Dragon Dale Region - Rough Draft
I agree with AG on posting detailed maps (or rather the links to them) generated by combining screenshots of the in-game map feature and then merging them in a graphics program.

From an individual standpoint: if your character has been to an area and you wish to map it in this manner, it is one thing (after all, those maps go away when the server resets, and it is sometimes hard to remember an area as a player, whereas the character--actually living and traveling there--would); however such personal gaming aids are HUGE spoilers for others in the game, so Thurgrin's approach is the right one.
That's a very nice map
It's missing one thing though, a sign that reads 'here be monsters'
