Hopefully not all the mines will be in such dangerus locations.
what I´m trying to say is that I would like to see some options, that doesn´t mean that you have to be fighting for every little goldpiece. And crafting would be such an option in my eyes, but undoable if all the mines are untouchable by 1 to 4th lvl PC´s ( not counting rogue´s )
If however that all the mines do get a dangerus location, it should open up for some interesting story lines, about kicking the enemy out of them for good ( yes for good, or until they claim them back )

Or hiring some seasoned adventurers to obtain some ore for you. ;)

I guess they are, because of the relative easiness of crafting some basic weapons. If the ore was easier to obtain, everybody could have a steady income of coin for little effort.
Berlin Thunderstruck is a level 1 dwarf fighter with INT bonus +2 and 4 ranks in smithing and weapon crafting. With the ore he collected in said dangerous mine, he forged a heavy flail (1st attempt a success) and a dire mace (required 3 attempts).
If he manages to sell this at 80% of Ralbon's or Vesper Arms prices to a PC, Berlin would gain a tidy profit. The monetary costs are minimal (access key, tools and wooden shafts), but he was in constant danger of being horribly slaughtered going to the mine, while he was mining the ore, and back from the mine.

another thought as someone who works with the relatively less dangerous world of leather and tailoring is that. it takes a while to make items. because of the limitation put on how often you can craft per day it makes life alot more difficult, took me two days to make a set of padded armor that I could maybe sell for 15 gold. so i still make a profit but its not like i'm flooding the market with 50 sets of padded armor per rl day.

Ish : Yes I know and I already put the word out, about buying Ore :D
Ras : Aye I agree to a certain point, and I beleive that we will be able to work around it. The RP will be there, just diffferent and envolving more peoble. A win/win situation I guess :)

any other tailors?

Sophia is trying her hand at dress making and magical cloak making...
I'm still figuring things out and buying different things and seeing what does what...
so any information you can post here about suggestions for materials or how I go about enchanting masterworks would be helpful!

how I go about enchanting masterworks
You can't, the enchanting crafting stations are not in game. You also would need the appropriate levels and feats depending on what you did to the items. See the first few posts in this thread.

well here is the one thing i can tell you about tailoring already. You will loose money unless you sell your items to npc's. I made padded armor yesterday, the total cost of items to make it + key for the backroom was i think 6 gold. I can sell it to a merchant for 2 gold. if I do I lose 4 gold. but if i sell to an npc for cheaper than most stores sell (which is 18) say 15 gold, and offer to customize it for them ( at cost) I turn a profit, not a big one. but a profit none the less. This is the only way i see tailoring being a viable trade so far since we can't go out and "mine" for wool and linen! I think once some mages start being willing to enchanct things tailors will be in a bit more demand.
p.s. Tailoring in the vast is my turf so back off =P~ (J/K *runs from AG's lightning bolts!!!!*)

You will never be able to craft and sell items to NPC merchants at a profit, their buy back margins are just too small. The point of crafting is to make items for yourself, or to undercut NPC merchants by selling to other PCs directly.

Hmmm... May I ask if it is on purpose that for instance Ore (iron) has a sell price of 0 ??...
I understand that the reason for mining is not to make a simple profit by selling to the NPC merchants, but to either sell to blacksmith PCs or to craft with it yourself.
But sometimes (for the moment, rather often I would guess) the "takers" of such crafting materials are rather limited, and as such you can't get rid of the Ore by other means than trashing them in the barrels or on the ground (which I did yesterday, I hope this is not kind of frowned upon).
Just curious, especially because of the amount of Ore that the orc in the mine dropped (I hope I do not give away too much IC information here, if I do, edit it away).

I just finished making my first masterwork weapon and i was very disappointed with what i recieved. In place of my attack bonus +1 i had Massive criticals 3 and a +1 bonus to parry. Very lame in my opinion. I then discussed this with a Jarg and Cafall and found out that the master work bonus would not work with the game engine in the way that it should. So i have come up with a solution that i think will bring masterwork items closer to what they should be. A Masterwork weapon should give the weapon focus feat for whatever kind of weapon has been created. I dont know if there is a way to make it stack with the bonus that is given if you already have weapon focus but giving masterwork weapons the bonus that they were meant to have is more important : ) Please take my idea into consideration and let me know what is decided.
I really enjoy playing on The Vast and you all are doing a great job! Keep up the good work : )
I play Hignus Spiritforged and Belad Malien

We didn't give them the +1 attack bonus because it can defeat +1 DR, and we want that reserved for actual magical weapons. We considered giving them +1 damage instead (which makes more sense physically anyway), but we already had an entire line of such weapons.

I know that discussion concerning the weapon was a while ago, but I think Wood Butcher's argument is pretty sound. Masterworks are cool as is, but the benefit to having one is really quite minimal.
I've seen on at least one server where they managed to create a glove that gave just an attack bonus, but didn't penetrate DR. At least i could have sworn they did. Not sure how they did it though. But I was pretty certain I wasn't penetrating. Then again, any number of unknown variables could have been there, like the DR being higher than i had though, etc. I know the general rule of thumb, no matter what, is that attack bonus add-ons penetrate DR, which is a shame in most cases.

In the past, there was some talk of changing masterwork weapons to do +1 damage in spite of the fact that we have a full line of weapons with that property already. In the end, it didn't get very far (no reason in particular). This is something I would possibly consider (I'd dump the entire line of razor sharp and hardened weapons if we did), but I won't change them to have attack bonuses - that would devalue enchanted weapons too much in my opinion.
One thing I do see though, is a serious glut of masterwork gear in PC inventories across the server. I suppose that's a problem in every server with crafting though.
