History
Born as the second son of four children, Michael Chiar grew up in Sevenecho where his family runs the "Singer's Wit," a middle-class inn and tavern for traveling merchants. It is also known for its decent entertainment in the form of many singers, bards, and dancers. He was always a curious child and often conversed with the patrons of the tavern about their tales and travels.

When he was in his teens, he petitioned his father to let him join the Shining Hand monastery located near Procampur. His father did not originally wish him to do so, but after an intense family conversation, he was persuaded to allow him to enlist. Michael hoped that at the Shining Hand he would finally understand the world around him... finally comprehend its why and how.

His application was accepted and he traveled to join them. There he was trained in the way of the Shining Hand, a monastic order that would combine devotion to Azuth and the mastering of the Weave with the normal curriculum of other monastic orders. His progress there was similar to that of his peers, but his understanding and progress was solid. Despite this, sometime after his third year he began to feel like there was something missing, a feeling that would come to him every now and then while he mediated.

It was only some three and a half years later that he found what he was missing in a chanced encountered with a book of Oghma in the monastery library. Upon reading that book he felt completely changed and realized that it was Oghma he had always sought his life. He debated whether or not to seek out his church and join it, but he had already spent too much time at the Shining Hand to give up want he had learned and discovered so far. Yet he felt that he and the school were too incompatible now and that he felt it was best for him to leave.

Upon alerting his master of his withdrawal, he was forced to only give up his spellbook and he was then politely led out of the monastery. They were disappointed in his decision (for he was an excellent student by their standards), but they respected it. Michael left to travel to Sevenecho, but found himself to his greatest shame to be unable to face his family. He wrote them a letter describing his actions and left to travel aimlessly to the north.

His travels continued aimlessly and lost for nearly three months before he suddenly came to the conclusion that he had no more coin left on him and his food supply was down to a single meal. Although his spending was frugal, it ran out eventually as he stayed in the Wayfarer of the town of Dragon Dale. Troubled and depressed, he searched about to find work and was remarkably surprised at just how much coin he could obtain. After some more thought he decided to stay there at Dragon Dale to substantially replenish his coin, but he was unsure when he should continue to move on, to continue his search for the answers of questions he knew not of… or perhaps stay still long enough to send…and receive a letter from home.
