Some views of Giulia
In-Game Description:
Giulia is a red-haired human around 30 years old. She has medium height and weight, and the well defined muscles of her athletic body do not, in any way, conflict with her femininity. Her light green eyes are vivid and expressive.
Background:
The Yusenov family is a wealthy and respected one in Impiltur. Giulia’s grandfather, Victor Yusenov, started as a simple sailor, but soon showed a remarkable talent for business, buying boats and making a fortune with naval commerce. He eventually created one of the biggest commercial fleets of Impiltur, based in Lyrabar. He learned the hard way the importance of being ready for pirate attacks, and took great care in making his ships as well armed as possible, which proved to be very beneficial to his business.
When Victor died, his elder son, Hermanuel – Giulia’s uncle –, took over the fleet and managed to keep it successful, running it for almost as long as his father. He also began to construct his own ships, and gradually replaced the naval commerce with boat construction, which became the family’s main business. He kept some ships doing commerce, but nothing near his father’s big fleet. He passed away not long ago, leaving the business to his two sons, Hermanuel Yusenov II and Carl Yusenov, who now run it jointly. They are both headstrong, though, and have very different views of many things – Hermanuel being conservative and Carl being way bolder –, and the rise of tension between them may well put the family’s good name in jeopardy.
Giulia’s father, Lorel Yusenov, didn’t show his brother’s interest in business, and joined the Impilturian Army, where he had a very successful career. He retired shortly after his brother’s death, as a respected high-ranked officer. He met Giulia’s mother, Uliana Laranova, when he was stationed in a post near the Bluefang Water. She was traveling with a group of researchers, looking for old dragon bones. Uliana is an expert arqueologist and historian, and was at the time very interested in the ancient dragons of Impiltur. She had to move on with her group, but she and Lorel kept in touch, and got married a few years later. They had two children: Giulia and her younger brother Boris, who were both born and raised in Lyrabar.
Boris – who affectionally calls his sister “Lia” – followed his father’s steps, and joined the army. Giulia was fascinated with her mother’s studies since she was a little girl, learning Draconic quite early in her life and developing a lasting interest for learning languages. Uliana knew enough about magic to teach Giulia the basics, but soon the girl surpassed her, and took the path of studying magic seriously. As Lorel taught Boris to use armors, swords and shields, Giulia took the chance to learn as well, becoming rather skilled with her favorites sword – the scimitar. If asked, though, she’ll say that the most important lessons she learned from her father were about honor and discipline. Giulia’s usual cheerful disposition may not hint at it, but she is quite disciplined in her studies and takes her tasks very seriously.
As Giulia delved into the secrets of the Weave, she developed a deep respect for Azuth and a strong faith in Mystra, to the point of becoming a cleric of the Lady of Mysteries. However, she kept a profound respect for both Oghma and Tyr, gained from her parents. In her view, power demands responsibility, and mastering the Art requires great wisdom. But wisdom implies independence, not servility, and Giulia feels that those who follow strict codes often lack a broader view of the world.
When Giulia was 22 years old, she decided to leave Lyrabar and travel in search of knowledge and some adventure. For some time she traveled through Impiltur, the Vast and the Dalelands. She then went on a larger journey to Halruaa, where she stayed for about five years. There, she learned Halruaan and Loross, and started to study Netherese. She returned to Impiltur for a while, to see her family, and then went again on a new travel. This time she found herself exploring the River Vesper in the Vast, where she heard a story about a powerful red dragon that was defeated in a large battle many years ago, somewhere near a small town to the north of the river. She heard conflicting versions of the battle, but according to some of them a witch seemed to have played an important role in it. She got curious, and decided to go up north, to visit this town and learn about what happened there. She completed 30 years old right after arriving in the town called Dragon Dale.
