When you buy a copy of NWN from gog.com, it includes a generic set of CD keys. To play in multi-player mode (such as on this server), you must request a set of unique CD keys from them. This is done after you have bought a copy via the NWN game page by filing a support ticket under the category for requesting unique CD keys. Follow their instructions on replacing your cdkey.ini file.
This is very important for two reasons:
First, the generic CD key is shared by everyone who buys NWN from GOG. If someone else is playing on a server while using that key, then when you try to log in while using the same key you will be unable to join because your "CD key is already in use".
Second, here on The Vast (and many other servers), we use a server-side security database that matches the public version of your CD key to your player ID so no one else can get into your character vault and use your characters. If your key is the same as another player's key, then you will be able to log in to each other's character vaults. Because of this, the generic CD key is banned on The Vast. If you try to log in before you install your own unique CD key, you will be booted with a message that you are banned. Don't worry, once you install your unique CD key, you will be able to log in normally.

A little addition to this. My original set of CD-keys I got over a period of three years as the nwn-discs came out.
Last year I bought nwn-premium through GOG for a second account, with a new set of numbers requested immediately. Here's comes the issue. In that same week a new player logged onto the server I am plaing on....with my original set of CD-keys. The DM noticed and sorted it out, but....you see it -can- happen. Wonder how small that chance is, really?

A change here:
The generic GOG.com CD key is now banned on The Vast. If you try to log in before you install your own unique CD key, you will be booted with a message that you are banned. Don't worry, once you install your unique CD key, you will be able to log in normally.
If, after installing your unique CD key, you still get a "Booted" message, then you will need to contact me to check the database to be sure the generic key wasn't recorded with your player ID.
