I am trying to connect from my girlfriend's house, and keep getting booted seconds after I log on. Is there a high ping limit to The Vast or does some DM hate me? (j/k)

is there a ping limit?

There are two spots for DM's saved on the server. So if you see 18/20 p[layers in the game..then you will get booted as soon as you appear.
This is, most likely, the reason why.
ah, thank you for the info. I was just curious, but I figured it was a ping thing, since I am not sure how good the cable connection is here.

Here's a good site (www.dslreports.com) to test your cable/dsl/broadband connection to see if you're getting the speeds that your ISP is advertising.

Run a couple speed tests. I also recommend using their tool DrTCP to adjust your RWin (default receive window). Doing so might improve your speed a bit.

I heard a rumor that you are only able to use the same cd key from one computer, is this true? if so it may have something to do with this as well if you are using the same cd at your house as your girls....
Re: is there a ping limit?
You can have the same CD key installed on more than one computer, but you can only run one instance of the game online at any one time. So, as long as you aren't trying to connect both computers to the MP network at any one time, it'll work.
On that note, users can share IP addresses. Users are distinguished by their CD key rather than their IP - myself and Amiolas share a DSL connection through a router, and we can both connect to the Vast at the same time. (Slightly off-topic - but it's useful to know if you have more than one player using the same line )
